Mutant Potato Lines

Description and Status of Population

One of the largest publicly known collections of mutant lines of potatoes in the world was created from the efforts of the Canadian Potato Genome Project. This collection of activation tagged lines were derived from the potato cultivar Bintje, which proved the most suitable for transformation in factorial experiments involving two cultivars and several different media.

A novel resource, at the end of the project over 9500 activation tagged mutant potato lines were created. Approximately 7500 of these lines were "archived" in a cold storage facility.

A small sub-set of these lines have been screened for phenotypic traits, and some examples of these unique phenotypes can be seen in our photobank.
